Tuesday, September 13, 2022 –Deputy President-turned-President William Somei Ruto has immediately appointed the six judges rejected by his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta.
Making the orders just seconds after receiving full instruments of State power from Uhuru Kenyatta at Kasarani Stadium Nairobi, Dr. Ruto today Tuesday September 13 said it was time to move the country forward by making sure independent institutions remain as stipulated in the Kenyan Constitution.
Last year, Mr. Kenyatta turned down the nominations of High Court Justices Joel Ngugi, George Odunga, Aggrey Muchelule and Weldon Korir to the Appellate court “for failing to meet the required integrity threshold”.
Also not making it to the list of appointees were Registrar of the High Court Judith Omange and Chief Magistrate Evans Makori, who had been nominated to the Environment and Lands Court.
But today, President Ruto listed both the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC and the Judiciary as key arms of government which need their Constitutional Independence to be able to carry out their mandate.
The new head of State also ordered that fertilizer in the country should start to retail at sh 3,500 down from sh 6,500 starting from next week.
“We have already made arrangements to make 1.4 million bags of fertilizer available at sh 3,500 for 50 Kg bag down from 6,500. This fertilizer will be available from next week,” Ruto directed.
William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua took oath of office today at an event organized at Moi Sports Center Kasarani, Nairobi.
Their inauguration ceremony was attended by over 70,000 persons both from Kenya and outside.
