Ruto Appoints Kiraitu Murungi to a Plum State Position

Friday, April 21, 2023 –Former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi is the new Chairman National Oil Corporation of Kenya Board of Directors.

President William Ruto made this appointment on Friday April 21 and explained that Mr. Murungi will hold the position for a period of three years.

Additionally, in the latest round of appointments, Ruto handed former Tharaka Nithi Governor Samuel Ragwa to be the Chairperson of the National Cereals and Produce Board as Richard Cheruiyot becomes the Chairperson of the Export Processing Zones Authority EPZA.

Former Machakos Deputy Governor Adelina Mwau has been appointed to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre KICC while Godfrey Lemiso will be the Chairperson of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 20th April, 2023.

Furthermore, former Presidential candidate David Mwaure Waihiga was appointed to be the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the National Environment Trust Fund NETF for a period of three years.

At the same time, National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u appointed lawyer Adrian Kamotho Njenga to be the new chairperson of the Capital Markets Tribunal CMT for a period of three years.

In an interview held with Kiraitu last year after the general election, he mentioned that he lost the governor seat because of his affiliation with Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja coalition.

After 30 years of conducting the Meru political orchestra, Mr. Kiraitu Murungi tasted his ever first defeat for the first time.

Faith Kawira Mwangaza, the Woman Representative of Meru County, was the competitor who handed Murungi his first befitting defeat.
