Friday, May 19, 2023 –Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Mohamed Echesa is the new chairperson of the Kenya Water Towers Agency Board KWTAB.
President William Ruto, on Friday, May 19, made this appointment through a Gazette Notice of Friday May 19 as seen by this writer.
The Notice granted Mr. Echesa a three-year stint at the water agency.
“I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Rashid Echesa to be the Chairperson of the Kenya Water Towers Agency Board, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 19th May 2023,” partly read the notice.
Following the changes, President Ruto revoked the appointment of Robert Kariuki who has been serving as chairperson since former President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed him a couple of years ago.
Echesa and William Ruto’s friendship spans more than eight years since the two started campaigns together before 2013 election that propelled Uhuruto dynamic duo into the Statehouse.
Echesa would then be appointed cabinet secretary Sports and Culture before President Uhuru Kenyatta sacked him over gross misconduct.
Echesa would then start blaming the opposition leader Raila Odinga for his woes following the March Handshake with Mr. Kenyatta.
