Sunday, April 14, 2024 –President William Ruto has broken his silence on the fuel prices in the country just hours after Energy regulator EPRA announced a reduction by sh 10.
Addressing today Sunday at a church service, ACK St. Peter’s Cathedral in Nyeri, the commander-in-chief said his administration was achieving all these because of making the right hard decisions.
He added that Kenyans will witness a big economic change in few months to follow because that is what he has resolved to focus on.
Ruto singled out that the price of ‘unga’ had gone down, the shilling strengthened against the dollar, and fuel prices has dropped by sh.10 today.
“Flour is now heading to sh 100 per 2kg packet, shilling has strengthened almost to sh 120 and fuel has gone down by sh 10 because we are making the right decision not popular decisions. Kenya is going to the right direction,” noted President William Ruto.
The head of State advised leaders both from the government and opposition that all have an opportunity to change Kenya like other developed countries which made the right hard decision for a better tomorrow.
He was addressing this shortly after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority EPRA, on Sunday, April 14, released new fuel prices.
EPRA announced that the pump prices of Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene had been reduced by sh 5.31 per litre, sh10.00 per litre and sh18.68 per litre, respectively.
“The prices are inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020,” read part of the statement.
With the new prices, Nairobi motorists will pay sh193.84 for a litre of petrol, sh180.38 for a litre of Diesel and sh170.06 for a litre of Kerosene.
Miles away in Mombasa, motorists will part with sh190.66, sh 177.21 and sh 166.99 for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene, respectively.
It will be interesting to now watch and see if transport industry will also lower the cost of traveling especially through the Public Service Vehicles PSVs which had hiked bus fares.
