Wednesday, February 16, 2022 –Deputy President William Ruto has issued a statement on his latest remarks he made on DRC Congo.
In a statement released through his head of Communication Hussein Mohamed, Ruto explained that his utterances in Nyeri last Monday was figurative and not intended to be blown out of proportion.
He argued in the six paragraph letter that he was speaking informally so that to underscore the need for locals to engage in commercial farming through animal production to tap into ready markets across borders.
He added that this gospel will still go on for the sake of sensitizing the public on the importance of trade between the two nations – DRC Congo and Kenya.
“My speech was informal and my use of certain effects was purely to underscore the magnitude of the opportunity and the urgency of the moment to a local audience. I regret any inconvenience,” he wrote.
Ruto’s Wednesday evening letter came amid sharp criticism from DRC where Kenyan Ambassador in the Central Africa nation, George Masafu, had confirmed that the country’s leadership had been disturbed by the recklessness from the DP.

“The Embassy has informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nairobi on the negative reactions that the comments have triggered among the business community and general populace in the DRC,” partly read a statement from Kenya’s side.
Opposition leader, Raila Odinga, had earlier weighed in on the matter which he described as weighty and asked the DP to instead own up and apologize as fast as he could.
