Wednesday, September 14, 2022 –President William Ruto has deleted a controversial tweet on the Sahrawi State.
On Wednesday September 14 evening, the newly sworn in president deleted the controversial tweet in which he had delegitimized Sahrawi State after his Wednesday meeting with Moroccan leaders.
“We are accelerating relations with the Kingdom of Morocco in areas of trade, agriculture, health, tourism, energy, among others, for the mutual benefit of our countries,” Ruto wrote.
This is after he had held a daylong meeting with Moroccan government at Statehouse Kenya today Wednesday September 14 where he also signed a deal with his counterpart, his Majesty King Mohammed VI.
“President William Ruto revokes Kenya’s recognitions of Saharawi State after hosting Moroccan King Mohamed Ki,” a deleted tweet read.
Though the President acknowledged receiving a congratulatory message from the Moroccan head of State, he said Sahrawi will not work with them as a fully recognized State and the Kenyan side will be initiating urgent steps to wind down the entity’s presence in the country.
This quickly saw his ally and lawyer, Ahmednasir Abdullahi, sharply defer with him saying he had not agreed with that decision.
“On this, I respectfully disagree with President William Ruto. The Sahrawi People of Western Sahara have the right of Peoples to self-determination. Morocco is a colonising State,” Ahmednasir reacted.
It would then see President William Ruto move with speed to delete the official tweet that had unfortunately went viral through social media screen-grabs.
Blogger Dekembe Disembe of ODM Party was the first to update the country that the newly-elected President had deleted his first tweet; a case of too little too late.
