Saturday, May 13, 2023 –Two rivals President William Ruto and opposition chief Raila Odinga will be sharing same stage during the burial service of Field Marshal Mukami Kimathi scheduled to take place in Nyandarua.
This, according to mainstream media, will be the first time the two antagonists will be seeing eye-to-eye and at close range since the highly divisive August 9 general election.
The two together with several other leaders – both national and local – will on Saturday attend the burial of Dedan Kimathi’s wife, Field Marshal Mukami Kimathi.
Also, in attendance is Raila’s top critic Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who has not been too friendly to the opposition especially on matters demonstrations against the high cost of living and electoral injustices.
Though, upto now, it is not clear whether retired President Uhuru Kenyatta will also attend, opposition leader Raila already made clear his(Raila) intention to attend.
“I cannot miss the funeral of Shujaa Mama Mukami wa Kimathi. We have been very close and I will be in Njabini for her final ceremony on earth,” he said.
On the other hand, DP Gachagua, this week, confirmed that his boss President William Ruto must also be in attendance.
Mukami Kimathi died aged 96 while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi City after developing breathing difficulties.
She passed away on Thursday night, May 4, 2023.
