Thursday, March 2, 2023 –Government has finally denounced the Lesbian Gay Transgender and Queers LGBTQ) community in Kenya.
President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua today in Nairobi reiterated that their government did not support such communities which seem to go against the African culture.
Speaking during the launch of the Women Fund on March 2 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre KICC, Ruto categorically said this foreign culture cannot happen under his watch.
“I cannot allow our women to get competition from men who chase after men or women who chase after women. That will not happen under my watch,” the President asserted.
His deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, at the same time was shocked at the recent Supreme Court ruling that gave greenlight to the same sex marriage in the country.
“I was shocked and even wondered what I could say. Do you know that there are times when you can be shocked until you have nothing to say? We are hearing that there is an organisation that wants to defend same-sex marriage. What is that?” he posed.
He added that the government had not spoken a word on the issue because this was a great shock from the side of the judiciary.
“We have no problem with the court but we have to ask what they imagine when a woman marries another woman. We do not have that and that is against our beliefs.
“The President is a Christian and he will do what is needed. What they suggest is contrary to our belief. Therefore, we are not supporting that,” Gachagua stated.
The Supreme Court, in its recent ruling, determined that the NGO board discriminated against an organisation that was seeking to be registered for advocacy work in the country.
In contrast, both Ruto and Gachagua have challenged the church to also help in wiping away this foreign culture that seem to have taken over all learning institutions.
