Friday, March 15, 2024 –Three East Africa heads of States converged in a meeting in Zanzibar to discuss integration, coexistence, prosperity and economy.
President William Ruto jetted out of the country on Thursday, March 14, before shortly being spotted in the meeting with counterparts Samia Suluhu(host), and Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni.
“This vision is informed by the unity of our diverse communities, the economic benefits of creating a larger market, and the imperative of security for stability within our expanded Community,” President Ruto announced.
Kenyawide.com would then learn that their meeting centered around the economic and political integration of the East African Community (EAC).
They discussed formation of the EAC Political Confederation where citizens of each nation will be involved in the entire exercise.
“In their discussions, they have talked about East African conflict issues, especially the importance of speeding up the exercise of gathering citizens’ views on the structure and areas to be considered in the draft constitution of the East African Political Confederation (EAC Political Confederation),” Samia Suluhu shared the details.
The Tanzanian president added that, this exercise had already started in Burundi, Kenya and Uganda with a team of experts on board.
“The exercise has already taken place in Burundi, Uganda and Kenya and is being carried out by a team of experts made up of three delegates from each member country,” read a statement in part by Tanzania’s State House.
A similar historic meeting took place decades ago where Kenya’s then president Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel Moi also held talks with Museveni and then Tanzanian counterpart Benjamin Mukapa, separately.
Museveni, Ruto and Suluhu meeting held on Thursday saw the former present a 1996 picture to the host Samia Suluhu.
