Saturday, August 28, 2021 -Deputy President William Ruto now claims his life is in danger after his security team was overhauled by the State.
In letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai, Ruto stated that the replacement of his detail including drivers could be linked to an ulterior motive and therefore not safe for him.
This saw the DP last Friday August 27 spend the entire day at his Karen home without stepping his foot out the way he is used to doing.
Reports have it that the 77 GSU officers manning Ruto were dramatically withdrawn from his residences and brought in only 29 officers who will be manning him starting last Friday August 27 when the changes were affected against his wishes.
According to Kenyans.co.ke, Ruto had 29 officers assigned to his official residence in Nairobi’s Karen, his private residence had 4 officers, Sugoi home had 28 officers, and his Elgon View home in Eldoret was assigned 10 officers.
However, when this was downsized, his official home now has 21 officers as all officers manning his private residence were withdrawn. His Surgoi village home was given only 3 new officers same to Elgon View.
Earlier on August 26 Ruto ranted about the changes before they were fully effected next day August 27.
His Communication office explained that the motive was ill-founded and political in nature meant to undermine the DPs office which falls under the Presidency.
The team on behalf of Ruto demanded an explanation to that effect saying this was done hastily without consulting their office.
“The Office of the Deputy President has formally written to the Inspector General of Police seeking an official explanation on this matter and reasons for the breach of security,” partly read their statement.
Shortly, NPS would emerge in response to the blame saying that the changes were not strange as they are normal reassignment procedures within the forces and should not be taken out of context.
