Saturday, February 3, 2024 -President William Ruto has asked the police to move with speed,  arrest and charge any government official involved in the licensing of the Embakasi gas business that exploded killing several persons; with scores nursing injuries in various city facilities.

Speaking at Chekalini Market in Lugari, Kakamega County, the commander-in-chief declared war against the Embakasi gas owners for operating an enterprise against the law. As well, Ruto pointed an accusing finger at certain government officials involved in the whole process.

Ruto stated that certain government officials issued permits to the gas dealer oblivious of the danger he posed to the residents.

“In Nairobi, there was an explosion causing grave injuries to many people because of laziness, deceit and corruption in government offices. Some granted a licence for the plant to be established at a residential area endangering the lives of Kenyans,” Dr. Ruto stated.

On that note, the head of State added that it was wrong for government-mandated officials to offer operating licenses to the business that had openly flauted location guidelines.

“I have instructed the Ministry that those responsible for granting the licence should be fired, arrested and detained today,” Dr. Ruto said.

The president further claimed, due to love of free money, the government officials received bribes to turn a blind eye to the law and it is now time they should be held responsible.

Ruto’s directive coming hours after Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority EPRA boss Daniel Kiptoo said the gas-filling station was, on several occasions, denied license to set plant in the area.

He specified that it was denied the documents three times.
