Ruto overturns Uhuru’s Executive Order undermining his office

Deputy President William Ruto has overturned the recent presidential directive that seemed to undermine his office.

A couple of month ago, his boss Mr. Kenyatta announced a new government structure where his office was renamed to Executive Office of the President from The presidency.

In the executive order that appeared to affect most the office of his deputy, Kenyatta through Order No. 1 of 2020 made the changes that created some unrest between lawyers and politicians.

“This innocent looking nomenclature change has huge legal implications… President denotes singularity of power … The presidency is shared power,” city lawyer Donald Kipkorir wrote on Twitter.

This, according to analysts, meant his deputy would henceforth remain dormant and must always ask for permission to be able to do anything in his office including buying, hiring and firing. This turn of events created a silence friction between the two former friends what triggered the Law Society of Kenya LSK to take up the matter.

And on Monday August 3,^, the Deputy President received good news that the High Court had suspended the controversial presidential / executive orders that had transferred his office to that of Uhuru.

The executive order had also moved constitutional commissions and independent bodies back to the mercies of the Attorney general and cabinet secretaries.

Making a landmark ruling on Monday, however, Justice James Makau wronged the head of State saying he had misused his powers in making the changes.

This was after the petitioner LSK reasoned that this would affect the common mwananchi and that further public interest would be interfered with hence an urgent need for court orders to stop any implementation.
