Tuesday, September 24, 2024 –Untied States tech-preneur Elon Musk has expressed his excitement following a statement from President William Ruto on Starlink services.
Musk, today Tuesday September 24, tagged President William Ruto’s statement on the arrival of Starlink internet in Kenya and the healthy competition is has brought with it.
“As the President of Kenya says, Starlink causes local competitors to provides better services,” Mr. Musk stated.
Kenyan President William Ruto, who is in the United States, yesterday explained how Elon Musk’s Star link has created competition, causing existing players like Safaricom to provide better services to its customers.
Ruto, who was speaking during US-Kenya Investment Roundtable meeting revealed further that local company owners are not happy with his decision to allow foreign competitors into the local market.
He pointed out how Safaricom ownership has been on his neck ever since Starlink internet rolled out its services in Kenya.
“I have my CEO for Safaricom – Sometimes he’s not very happy with me for bringing other characters like Elon Musk and others into the space. I keep encouraging Peter that competition makes you keep ahead and he’s been doing pretty well, I must admit, he’s really upped his game,” said Ruto during the US-Kenya Business and Investment Roundtable in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
Starlink, which is owned by Musk, was introduced in Kenya months ago and has been received well by Kenyans who have been calling on each other to embrace it, locally.
Reason Kenyans have cited is among others, exploitation from local companies that have been overcharging internet services because of guaranteed monopoly.
