Thursday, June 1, 2023 –President William Ruto has recognised the Kenyan team working to restore order and peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo DRC.
On Wednesday, May 31, the head of State commended former President Uhuru Kenyatta with the rest of his team in making sure there is witnessed ceasefire between the worrying factions in the war-torn country.
Speaking during the 21st Extraordinary Meeting of the Heads of State held in Burundi, Dr. Ruto linked the current peace to heavy commitment from the Kenyan team led by Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta.
“We celebrate the ceasefire that has now been held for the last two months and congratulate all the actors – the military of DRC, the East African force, and all the actors that have made it possible for us to have the ceasefire we all wanted as a summit,” he stated.
President Ruto said, though there could be a few challenges still surfacing in the DRC, a great milestone had been reached in the whole peace creating exercise.
“We also celebrate the gradual return of civilian life in Eastern DRC even though there are challenges to it. We can confidently say that there is a significant return to human life in Eastern DRC,” Ruto referred to a report Uhuru submitted to the regional leaders recently.
Additionally, the President recognised the East African Regional Force EACRF led by Major General Alphaxard Muthuri Kiugu of Kenya for restoring peace and order in areas recently vacated by the M23 rebels.
To a wider extend, the EAC Presidents are happy with the work Mr. Kenyatta from Kenya had done in his capacity as the EAC facilitator and thus resolved to adopt his report in continuing to ensure peaceful coexistence in the continent.
