Wednesday August 16, 2023 -President William Ruto has thrown under the bus former Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago and his accomplices over the Finland/ Canada scholarship scam.
Ruto, while addressing residents of Eldoret Town in Uaisn Gishu today Wednesday August 16 where he had gone to open the Governors’ Devolution Conference, said he will make sure every coin taken from a poor local in the area is refunded by those who participated in the graft.
He warned any leader who might have participated in the multimillion public corruption to prepare and refund the money to the rightful owners or face legal consequences.
The head of State added that it was an embarrassment to his leadership when such things occur in his backyard.
“If you know you touched people’s money in the Finland scholarship fraud, prepare to pay back. You will have to be held squarely responsible for any penny robbed from these people who sold their animals to part with the money.
“I am going not to allow this to happen,” President Ruto warned.
He, however, mentioned that after sometime, his leadership will sit down and find a lasting solution that will see those affected continue with their education as planned.
Ruto was speaking this, days after residents of Eldoret complained that they had been scammed millions by county leadership in the guise of Finland and Canada scholarships.
Under the leadership of Jackson Mandago, locals claimed they lost money with hope of joining external learning institutions for their higher-level education.
In the protests, they accused the county leadership of taking them in circles with no clear explanation on how it was going to refund them the money.
Mr. Mandago was today declared wanted by a Nakuru court before he was later arrested by detectives.
