Ruto Releases sh 3.55 Billion for Fertilizer Program

Tuesday, September 20, 2022 –President William Ruto has today released a whopping sh 3.55 billion for subsidized fertilizer perogram.

On Tuesday September 29 afternoon, the 1.4 million bags started being dispatched to the National Cereals and Produce Board NCPB deports countrywide.

This being part of the recent presidential directive meant to actualize the subsidized fertilizer program to help curb the biting shortage of food around the country.

“The government has availed Ksh3.55 billion to subsidize 71,000 metric tonnes (1.42 million x 50 Kg bags) of fertilizer for growing food crops during the short rains season,” partly read the statement dated Tuesday, September 20.

Following this dispatch, Kenyans across the country can now start accessing the sh 3,500-50 Kilogram fertilizer from any nearest NCPB deport and their sub-deports.

In the Tuesday statement, individual farmers can have upto a maximum of 100 bags of the 50 Kilogram fertilizer bag.

“The Ministry appeals to farmers requiring fertilizers in the short rains dependent areas to visit the nearest NCPB depot or sub-depot to access the subsidized fertiliser,” also read the statement.

Moreover, Calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN) will retail at sh 2,875, UREA was subsidized to sh 3,500, nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium (NPK) will sell at sh 3,725. Muriate of potash (MOP) will retail at sh 1,775, di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) will go for sh 3,500, while Sulphate of Ammonia will go for sh 2,220.

In the directive, Ruto announced that the sh 6,500 fertilizer will be reduced down to sh 3,500 for every willing Kenyan.

He went on to assert that the subsidies for  food would rather be directed towards production. This is after it emerged that the Uhuru Kenyatta’s government has been spending a staggering sh 7 billion every month on imaginary sh 100 unga.
