Saturday, May 7, 2022 –Deputy President William Ruto has decried about the move by President Uhuru Kenyatta to paint him as a bad person saying it is a similar tactic they adopted against Raila Odinga in 2013 and 2017 to win elections.
The DP who was addressing supporters in Busia County yesterday Friday May 6 mentioned that the Jubilee Government used to paint Raila Odinga as a very bad person for the country to trust with leadership; a strategy that finally worked magic for them.
He has, however, complained that Uhuru is applying the same evil tactic to vanquish him from Mt. Kenya region and around the country.
“Fisi akitaka kula watoto wake husema wananuka kama mbuzi (When a hyena wants to eat its cubs, it claims they smell like a goat and then eats them). That is what the President did to forsake me,” he ranted.
The visibly angry DP went on to challenge those accusing him of laxity on job to point out any single assignment he failed to attend to as the second in command to Uhuru.
“I have discharged all responsibilities that the President directed to me or to my office accordingly,” he added.
According to the DP, Uhuru’s tactic and which they successfully used against Odinga is meant to drive away support from him what he urged voters to ignore.
And speaking on the pressure to resign, the defiant UDA presidential candidate clarified that unless Uhuru resigns, he will not resign either.
He argued that, the same way Uhuru was elected by the majority is the same way he was also elected and therefore resignation should affect both or not.
Ruto further defended his track record saying the many achievements seen today around the country were made possible by him.
In his Western Kenya tour, he was accompanied by ANC Party leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula among many other leaders allied to his camp.
So far, the DP’s popularity countrywide, according to latest numbers from a major pollster, stands at 39 percent against Raila’s 32 percent.
