Sunday, October 13, 2024 –President William Ruto has defended his decision not to attend a church service in Embu.
Addressing at AIC Milimani Church Nairobi today Sunday October 13, the head of State dispelled any rumour that he canceled the Embu church function because of political challenges.
In his remarks, the commander-in-chief argued that the eventual change of schedule was informed by the weight of the two events.
He stated that, to him, it was highly important to attend the 30th anniversary celebration in Nairobi instead of the 25 anniversary in Embu.
“I missed the 25-year celebration. I was not going to miss the 30-year one,” he stated, aiming to dispel the ongoing doubts surrounding his abrupt change of plans yesterday.
Interestingly, the president kept off the ongoing debate about the impeachment of his deputy Rigathi Gachagua. He also did not speak about Mt. Kenya Region politics.
Reports from the Statehouse, earlier, claimed that the Embu visit was scrapped due to a scheduling conflict; an explanation that has done little to quell the rising speculations.
On the contrary, the embattled DP, yesterday, after learning about the cancellation from his boss, opted to jump into the space as fast. He announced his presence saying he will be gracing the event at his backyard.
Gachagua with his wife and family members were also spotted at Sarit Center Westlands where they spent time with supporters.
He would be seen dancing and taking selfies with youthful Kenyans who were delighted to meet him for the first time.
His planned impeachment is scheduled this week on Thursday; after which the Supreme Court will pick up the matter from there.
