Tuesday, October 12, 2021 -Supporters of Deputy President William Ruto have turned out in huge numbers to register as voters; according to the latest statistics from the electoral body IEBC.
Areas perceived to be DP’s strongholds have since registered highest numbers during the ongoing exercise as opposed to those held by both Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati today Tuesday October 12 said, overall, the registration was too low countrywide but Rift Valley Region and its environs had shown remarkable standards.
Statistics showed that high numbers had been recorded in Elgeyo Markwet, Samburu, Narok, Turkana, Baringo, West Pokot, Mandera, Nandi, River Tana and Wajir counties.
On the other hand, regions which are competing Ruto registered low numbers with seven of the bottom counties coming from Mt. Kenya Region where President Uhuru Kenyatta comes from. These counties are Nyeri, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Embu, Laikipia, Kirinyaga, and Murang’a.
IEBC stated that the turnout in those areas was less than two percent of the targeted voter registration.
Moreover, areas in Coast, Nairobi, Nyanza and Eastern had also recorded low turnout in the ongoing exercise.
Expansive Rift Valley part of the country is projected to accumulate a whopping 6 million votes by the end of the exercise.
