Ruto to make Bungoma a City Before Kakamega

Friday, May 31, 2024 –Bungoma Town is now set to be elevated to city standards. President William Ruto has, today, made the declaration.

Ruto, speaking at Sirisia in Bungoma on Friday May 31, announced his intentions to make Bungoma a city just like Nakuru, Kisumu and Eldoret which acquired the status recently.

“For the town in Bungoma, I am planning to come up with a comprehensive plan for a city and set it up to a level similar to that of Nairobi City,” Ruto announced.

“The city will be located near the airport where we will set up a big town. We want to build a city here so we can elevate Bungoma County to another new level,” President Ruto made the remarks.

Dr. Ruto stated that his government has a plan ready to start pushing Bungoma into city status; saying the county is populated and cosmopolitan.

Bungoma will, therefore, witnesse a robust development project initiated by the national and county government to make sure this dream comes true.

The commander-in-chief, further promised to make sure the Matulo Airport is expanded its runway as well as gets a new modern terminus to bolster movement and trade.

This modern facility, Ruto said, will play a vital role in changing the economic status of the Western Kenya people.

The head of State further talked about electricity supply in homes and shopping centers which are still in darkness.

For that reason, he announced an allocation of a whopping sh 2 billion this financial year to make sure over 20,000 households get access to power.
