Wednesday, April 27, 2022 –Ex-Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has revealed how he had to decline Deputy President William Ruto’s offer to vie for Nairobi governor.
Speaking this while receiving his nomination certificate at Kalonzo Musyoka’a Command Center in Nairobi on Tuesday April 26, the politician said he could not find any reason to rejoin Ruto’s Hustler camp.
Ruto, reportedly, offered Mr. Sonko a good deal to join United Democratic Alliance UDA through a direct ticket but he rejected for obvious reasons and instead opted to vie on the Wiper ticket for Mombasa County gubernatorial seat.
“Kalonzo is a father figure to me, he is like my relative. Actually, I had a direct nomination ticket for UDA in Nairobi but because of the respect I give to Kalonzo, I decided to respect his offer,” stated Sonko.
According to Mr. Sonko, Nairobi residents still believed in his leadership the party not withstanding but had to move to Mombasa where he also believes that he commands a huge fellowship.
The flamboyant politician also refuted claims that his entry into Mombasa politics was to spoil for Raila Odinga’s ODM candidate.
And speaking on Musyoka’s demand to be named Raila Odinga’s running mate in Azimio-One Kenya Alliance, Sonko noted that the former Vice President was the most suitable for the job than the rest.
“I am just urging Hon. Raila Odinga to consider his brother Kalonzo Musyoka for the running mate position. He deserves the position,” he added.
The former governor also argued that Kalonzo was, in fact, the most suitable to become the next head of State and who must therefore be respected in reciprocity.
