Thursday, December 1, 2022 –Plans to create a powerful office of the opposition leader are underway with details indicating a draft Bill is almost ready.
The fresh details emerged today Thursday December 1 in which it is claimed that President William Ruto is under immense pressure from his Western allies to keep his word as per the Chatham House address he made before the election of August 9.
Ruto had promised to fund the opposition so that it can keep his government in full check just incase he would emerge the winner.
He had promised to form a powerful office of the opposition which would be domiciled in Parliament.
This, therefore, informs why the opposition MPs are busy drafting a Bill that will be presented in Parliament very soon.
A section of UDA MPs have also vowed to support the Bill so that Mr. Odinga can get a chance to officially criticize government from the floor of the Parliament.
For example, Kimili Member of Parliament MP Didmus Barasa has already showed his willingness to support this plan if brought before the House.
“I have not seen such amendments but I must support it if introduced in Parliament,” he promised as quoted by Nation.Africa.
The United States UK and United Kingdom UK ‘badly’ wants president Ruto to fulfill his promise made in Chatham House.
It’s expected that the office of the official leader of the opposition will have sweeping powers including addressing Parliament annually or any time he deems necessary.
Details indicate that this is all geared to ensure that the opposition side is fairly active and has the funding of the exchequer.
Political pundits hold that Raila and Ruto shared the country equally in the August 9 election and, therefore, as a fair practice, there is need to accommodate each other in one way or the other.
