Saturday, July 30, 2022 –Family of former Eldoret North MP Reuben Chesire has confirmed that Deputy President William Ruto once slapped Chesire at Statehouse after a heated exchange during the 2002 campaign period.
Wife to the late Chesire, Ms Alice Chesire, today Saturday July 30 told the Daily Nation publication that Ruto who was so loose at that time finally landed a slap at Chesire; what still lingers fresh in family’s mind todate.
Ms Chesire went head to state that the issue had never been resolved; what makes them hate anytime DP Ruto makes headlines in major media outlets as the best thing that ever happened in the country.
“On that day he(my husband) came back home and I could see he was in a lot of pain emotionally. One of his eyes red and painfully narrated to us what had happened to him,” Mrs Chesire recounted.
The family, however, said they habour no ill feelings against the DP and that their opening up on this matter should not be construed to mean they are after his political ambitions.
“I am speaking now because there have been a lot of stories going around about this incident that happened to my late husband.
“I am saying it now because I want the voice of peace to be heard among Kenyans and even as we finish the elections, we need to speak peace among the youth and the politicians so that we have peace in this country,” Mrs Chesire stated.
She went ahead to tell the publication that, in Eldoret where both come from, people keep reminding her about that past incident urging her to speak about it so that she can set the record straight.
Mrs Chesire added that, though, her husband was ready to resolve the matter amicably at local level, Ruto never bothered to meet him to make the truce happen.
According to plans, Mr. Ruto was supposed to reach out to him with three elders so as to hold talks and iron out their differences, guide and bless the young man on how to carry on with his leadership career, but this couldn’t happen because Ruto remained defiant, todate.
