Thursday, May 26, 2022 –There was witnessed a slight spiritual mixup at the National Prayer Breakfast held at Safari Park Hotel today May 26 after Deputy President William Ruto misquoted a Bible verse.
Ruto, who was attempting to justify why people must compromise mistakes to remain united, quoted a different Bible verse to mean another.
Famous for wielding the Bible anytime he is confronted by difficulties, the second in command missed the mark by uttering a scripture in a different verse while mentioning the other.
He was attempting to call for a reconciliation among leaders as political season hits high saying he was also sorry for having fell short of what was expected of him by his boss Uhuru Kenyatta.
“I also know that serving as the deputy president, I may have fallen short of expectations of my boss His Excellency the President, my good friend, I ask for your forgiveness.
“The Bible says in Isiah 1:18, We have fallen short of His glory. To all I may have wronged, I ask for your forgiveness, and all those who have wronged me, I forgive them with a clean heart,” a visibly subservient and soft-spoken Ruto stated.
Witty Kenyans, however, noticed his mistake and pointed out through their various social media platforms. They expressed their dissatisfaction after they realized that Ruto was supposed to quote Romans and not Isiah.
“Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool,” reads Isaiah 1.18, the verse Ruto quoted.
In the Romans it talks about those who had fallen short of the glory of God and why they should be forgiven through confession.
“For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” This is the verse (Romans 3:23) the DP quoted but in the wrong book.
Azimio running mate Martha Karua also almost committed the same mistake but she was honest enough to run a disclaimer confessing that she is not good at quoting the Bible. Â
“I just want you to remember that somewhere in the Bible, I am not good with quoting, so do not expect the verse. It is said that prayers without action is not real. So how I pray that our prayers are matched by our actions,” she stated.
This was in reference to the book of James 2:26, which states that faith without action is hollow.
