Saturday, July 29, 2023 –A prominent lawyer has petitioned the International Criminal Court ICC to look into the conduct of opposition leader, Raila Odinga.
The lawyer who represented President William Ruto in the August 22 presidential poll has petitioned the international court to immediately start investigations into Azimio la Umoja boss Raila Odinga.
He claims that Mr. Odinga had a sinister motive of destabilizing the country through chaos and mayhem so that to get to power through the backdoor.
He argues in his petition that, despite the current president winning elections fair and square, both at the IEBC level and the Supreme Court level, Odinga was not willing to accept this outcome and move on for his own political and selfish interests.
Lawyer Adrian Kamotho, who is now representing victims of the ongoing protests dubbed Victims of Maandamano Insurgents VMI, on Friday July 28, stated that his clients had suffered in the hands of Odinga and, therefore, a need to save them from further losses arising from the anti-State demos.
He has written a letter to the ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan claiming that the protests are no longer peaceful as required by law and if left unchecked could affect millions of innocent Kenyans, in the long run.
“Our clients are compellingly persuaded that a time has come for the Office of the Prosecutor to take decisive steps in consonance with Article 15 of the Rome Statute to redress acute humanitarian transgressions and war crimes being perpetrated with impunity by Hon. Raila Odinga, a former prime minister,” Lawyer Kamotho requested.
On the same note, he has accused the former head of State Uhuru Kenyatta of involving himself in active politics instead of retiring home as law requires.
Lawyer Kamotho, consequently, wants the ICC, through the Chief Prosecutor, to unearth alleged ill motives by the Handshake brothers towards the current government of William Ruto.
He adds that the two – Raila Odinga and Uhuru – after losing the August elections, had agreed to destabilize the country.
His petition coming just days after Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja brigade also threatened that they had gathered enough evidence both in video and photo formats showing the atrocities committed by this government on their supporters.
