Monday, December 12, 2022 –Opposition leader Raila Odinga has questioned President William Ruto’s honesty in creation of the official opposition leader’s office.
Through a detailed statement of Sunday December 10, Mr. Odinga wondered how the head of State was reintroducing the same things he(Ruto) vehemently opposed a few months ago.
According to Mr. Odinga, Ruto is lacking honest in his plans and that he wants to lay a trap for the opposition to fall in before completely mutilating the Constitution.
“Had Mr. Ruto been honest about the BBI proposals, everything he has suggested in his memorandum would be law today,” Mr. Odinga said.
Raila holds views that whatever Ruto wants to reintroduce is what was in the Building Bridges Initiative BBI and, therefore, is something which ought to have been dealt with long ago before elections.
The opposition force further argues that the regime must comply with the Supreme Court verdict on the poll petition.
“He must comply with the same imperatives that he demanded of the BBI process.
“All proposals for amendments of the Constitution must start with the people.
“The amendments must chiefly centre on the interests of the common mwananchi,” Raila added.
Odinga, therefore, promised to take-on Ruto when he returns from the United States of America USA where he is attending the African Union AU international meetings.
He clarified that he will be able to consult widely before falling for any offer from those who incited the public against the BBI.
Odinga’s statement coincided with Governor James Orengo’s warning to the regime that changing the Constitution can only be done through the rightful channel and not the Parliament.
The Siaya County boss together with Rarieda Lawmaker Otiende Amollo cautioned MPs against going with the wishes of the executive.
Speaking at Ruma Primary School in Rarieda, the two elected leaders claimed that the president is a cunning politician whose intentions must be carefully interrogated especially when they appear to be very good and sumptuous.
They claimed that after the introduction of the opposition leader’s office, Ruto will embark on changing the law to interfere with the president’s term limit of 10 years.
