Thursday, September 7, 2023 –A section of Kenya Kwanza leaders have erupted in defense of expelled Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party MPs.
The politicians are up in arms with the opposition for punishing lawmakers who have since switched loyalty from ODM to the ruling side of KK.
Following the expulsion notice issued on Wednesday September 6, Lang’ata area Member of Parliament MP Phelix Odiwuor aka Jalang’o, who is among those affected, exuded confidence that he will overcome the challenge.
Jalang’o quoted the Book of Corinthians Chapter 10 which speaks about obstacles and how God can maneuver anyone who has faith.
“No trial is too heavy to lift! No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it,” the MP said.
United Democratic Alliance UDA Party Member also former Nairobi Woman Rep hopeful, Millicent Omanga, faulted the move taken by the ODM National Executive Council NEC and sought to know why some members in ODM had been spared in the purge and yet they all committed the same offence.
“How come ODM party has expelled only Luo leaders yet there are other leaders from other regions aligned to ODM and AZIMIO who are also supporting and working with Kenya Kwanza Government,” she stated.
Immediately, she received support from Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei who described the expulsion as skewed and a political witch hunt.
“Double standards by Azimio-OKA/Tinga is unprecedented and hypocritical because Kalonzo was in Statehouse yesterday where before him my law lecturer Sen. Prof. Ojienda, Jalang’o and others visited statehouse they have been expelled; will Kalonzo also be expelled from Azimio-OKA / Wiper Party for going to state House yesterday?” he sought answers.
Cherargei added that Raila has met with President William Ruto more than three times after the last year’s general election and, therefore, cannot punish others for the same mistake.
“Tinga has met H.E Ruto several times will he also be expelled from ODM/Azimio-OKA? “This political conmaship, intimidation and blackmail must come to an end,” he charged.
ODM Party’ NEC, today Wednesday, expelled at least five key politicians from the Party citing indiscipline and gross misconduct.
Among those affected included Prof Tom Ojienda(Kisumu), Carol Omondi(Suba South), Jalang’o(Lang’ata) among others – both MPs and MCAs.
Others are Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Hon. Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), and scores of MCA from Kisumu County for defying party position and gross misconduct.
Kakamega Senator, Boni Khalwale also from UDA Party, while weighing in on the matter, said the expulsion means nothing and that those in the expulsion list will serve, uninterrupted, their five-year term upto 2027.
He termed ODM’s move as sideshows.
