Sunday, November 20, 2022 –Star Sadio Mane will not be featuring anywhere in the FIFA World Cup 2022 starting in Qatar this Sunday November 20.
Senegal team official doctor Manuel Afonso announced on Thursday November 17 that Mane had suffered an injury that is still in its healing process.
The finish man, therefore, has to undergo a surgery after the first one which he is still fighting to recover from what, therefore, may not allow him to participate in the World Cup to kick off on Sunday November 20.
“Unfortunately, today’s MRI shows us that the improvement is not as favorable as we imagined and unfortunately, we have to withdraw Sadio from the World Cup,” Dr. Manuel Afonso made the announcement.
Mane sustained the costly injury while playing for Bayern Munich against Werder Bremen during a Bundesliga fixture on November 8.
Bayern management would shortly give an update indicating that the lethal forward had underwent a successful surgery.
“During the operation, a tendon was reattached to the head of his right fibula. The FC Bayern forward will therefore no longer be available to play for Senegal at the World Cup and will begin his rehab in Munich in the next few days,” the Bayern Munich’s statement read.
It must be remembered that Senegal Football Federation FSF board member Abdoulaye Sow on November 16, had noted that Mane would miss the first games only.
