Monday, March 13, 2023 –Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has urged President William Ruto to shake off hardliners trying to block him from uniting the country.
Addressing the unity challenge on Sunday March 12 afternoon after attending a church service in Roysambu Nairobi, the city governor fell short of naming the persons who are not happy to see the President meet with the opposition for talks.
He clarified that, though, the head of State is willing to listen to other people from the other side of the political divide, his hardliners have refused to let him do that which is right for the country.
“There are other leaders who are trying to become hardliners, to tell the president not to reach out.
“Kenya Kwanza’s politics and leadership is that of inclusion and I know that is what the President stands for despite being surrounded by people who are afraid of unity,” Sakaja indicated.
Despite maintaining that nobody would want a replica of Handshake, the Governor declared that it was time to make the ‘hard’ decisions for the sake of this country.
Putting aside political differences, he noted that remains the only sure way Kenya can achieve development goals within five years.
“No one wants a handshake but you must acknowledge all leaders and hear what are their legitimate concerns. This country is bigger than any one person,” Mr. Sakaja added.
The United Democratic Alliance UDA politician mentioned that traders around Nairobi are already fearing for chaos which may arise from political tension from the main two political rivals.
But even as he was making this plea to the president, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, a few meters away, was busy firing shots at the opposition team which he warned against hoping for any handshake.
“I will start camping at the Statehouse so that this Kitendawili man cannot confuse our president. I want to man the walls of Statehouse 24/7 so that when he(Raila) attempts to come there, he should find me there already,” Gachagua stated.
According to Mr. Gachagua, President William Ruto and Raila Odinga should not come together because this may derail the government development agenda.
