Sakaja Speaks on Raburu Resignation

Tuesday, October 31, 2023 –Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has responded to Willis Raburu’s resignation move from the government position.

Speaking just one day after Raburu – who had been named the chairperson of the Nairobi Festival Committee – called it quits from the county position, Governor Sakaja has noted that the event will be better this year.

He was speaking in a meeting he hosted at Weston Hotel in Nairobi and attended by key partners and corporate entities.

“For six days, the Nairobi Festival, organized by the Nairobi City County Government will provide a platform to celebrate the diversity of Nairobi, as well as its rich creative arts and culture.

“We have many more partners that have come on board. We have budget lines and all the provisions in our law to get the ticket, and we expect a bigger international festival,” he told the congregation.

While leaving the job, the former Citizen Tv journalist challenged Sakaja to make some unspecified ‘systematic changes’ in the docket.

“This morning, I have officially informed the leadership of the county that I will no longer be serving in my current capacity as Chair of the Nairobi Festival Committee

“However, this decision is driven by a recognition of the pressing need for systemic change to enhance the effectiveness of our service delivery and leadership,” read the statement in part.

The journalist who has since moved to his love career at the Tv 47, however, revealed that he would still support the county leadership and the festivals should any need arise.

Nairobi Festival first took place in December 2022 and will be returning this year same month.
