Monday, October 28, 2024 –Lawyers’ agency LSK has swung into action in search of online media personality Aoko Otieno or activist Maverick Aoko who has been missing in action now a full week.
Search for Aoko started on social platforms especially on Twitter where she reigns supreme before the Law Society of Kenya took a step to start a thorough push against the State to locate her.
Aoko and Boniface Mwangi went missing almost at the same time but, through the help of LSK, Mwangi was traced and he has since reunited with family and friends.
“We have heard that Aoko is missing and we are asking for any information. Our hotline is still working. Please reach out to the LSK. Every life counts. We ask that whoever is holding her that she should be released immediately. Let’s not be a country that we live in intimidation or fear,” LSK President Faith Odhiambo told the press.
She added that it has reached time every Kenyan should be brother’s keeper as cases of abduction and murder go up in the recent days.
“Kenya is our country, Kenya is our home. Let us fight to ensure that we uphold the rule of law. That every single person feels like they have a right to enjoy their rights fully in this country. People might say things that are not pleasant for you, however, there are rules to govern the same. Let us deal with people within the confines of the law.”
Other prominent politicians who demanded Aoko’s release include Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah who reminisced days blogger Bogonko Bosire went missing and was never located todate.
“Where is Aoko? We begin the week trying to find Aoko. Remember Bogonko Bosire? One day in 2013, he went offline and has never been seen 11 years later. Retweet widely and make noise for Aoko. You never know, your voice could be what keeps her alive today,” Omtatah wrote.
Aoko has been missing online for now five days and attempts to get in touch with her offline have bore no fruits leading to public uproar.
She could be made a target by the State owing to the fact that her routine posts are usually aimed at those in power and, sometimes, goes hammer and tongs at them.
