Friday, August 23, 2024 –A second confirmed Mpox case has been reported in Kenya.

On Friday, he Ministry of Health on confirmed a second case of Monkeypox infection following a laboratory test conducted on a truck driver at the Malaba One Stop Border Post in Busia County.

Cabinet Secretary for Health Debra Barasa announced that the driver reportedly showed salient symptoms of the disease and had a history of travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) where the disease broke out.

“In addition, we have screened a total of 426,438 travelers at our various ports of entry across the country,” CS Barasa stated.

In its announcement, the Ministry of Health directed Kenyans to remain vigilant and observe public health measures to ensure their safety and well-being.

“Our health facilities are adequately staffed and well-equipped to diagnose and manage this disease and therefore its identification should not be a cause for alarm.”

The Ministry has advised members of the public to observe regular washing of hands suing running water and soap.

Kenyans are also asked to start using alcohol-based hand sanitizer, observe high quality hygiene as well as keep off conduct with those they suspect having the disease.

On Wednesday July 31, the Ministry of Health confirmed the first case of Mpox in Kenya that was reported at the Taita-Taveta one-stop border point (OSBP).

In its statement that Wednesday, MoH said the patient was traveling from Uganda to Rwanda through Kenya.
