Wednesday, May 29, 2024 –The ruling party has erupted fire as members continue to throw shade at each other over disrespectful utterances.
Just moments after MP Oscar Sudi took on Cleophas Malala who had castigated Sudi for disrespecting the deputy president, controversial Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, on Wednesday, also came out guns blazing in response to the statement made by their party secretary general.
According to Kahiga, Malala is not only unfit to run the ruling party but also incompetent and unreliable person who must be ejected as soon as possible.
“Ag SG Malala in UDA is like a square peg in a round hole. He doesn’t fit. I have said it before, and I repeat, we must get rid of him in the coming UDA elections,” Kahiga charged.
He accused Malala of threatening other party members regardless of the seniority; what is not what should be happening in a party that is in power.
“We have come from an era of being gagged and threatened for speaking our minds. UDA was never built on such tenets and the earlier our ANC acting SG in UDA understood that, the better for him. I have reviewed my statement many times, and given the same circumstances, I would say exactly what I said then and say it in the same way,” he said.
In the same respect, Kahiga who is an ally of DP Rigathi Gachagua opined that the party stands to lose a lot should Malala continue to be at the top and that this makes some of the reasons Gachagua is not being respected by junior politicians in the party.
Mr. Malala, today Wednesday, sent a letter to Kahiga, Sudi and Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba accusing them of causing ‘noise’ in the party.
He had argued in the letter that their party UDA was a ticking time bomb as war of words escalated between members.
“Your recent conduct not only undermines the party’s unity but also disrespects the leadership that you pledged to serve. Let this be a stern warning: desist from such actions with immediate effect. Should this behaviour persist, the party will take disciplinary action against you,” Malala said.
Others Malala warned include Cabinet Secretaries Kipchumba Murkomen of Transport, Moses Kuria of Public Service and Aisha Jumwa.
Interestingly, upto now amid the back and forth, party boss William Ruto is yet to utter a word on the matter.
Some months ago, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, also took issue with Malala saying he was manipulating party members ahead of their party grassroots.
Kimilili MP Didmus Barsa would support the claims by asking President William Ruto not to allow Malala at the top of their party, anymore.
Mr. Malala lost the Kakamega gubernatorial election to ODM’s Fernandes Barasa; what saw Dr. Ruto move to reward him with the SG post he holds upto now.
The former Kakamega senator was not taken through any election or an interview to bag the coveted party position.
