Monday, April 15, 2024 –Security guards across the country have stopped their contributions to the giant trade union COTU.
In a circular signed and shared by the Private Security Regulatory Authority PSRA today Monday April 15, all security companies in the country were ordered to cease making monthly contributions to the union citing failure on mandate.
Chief Executive Officer PSRA, Fazul Mahamed, announced that all private companies will be required to cease their contributions with the order taking effect from today Monday.
“Regrettably, notwithstanding their significant financial contributions, COTU has not lived up to its mandate and has persistently disregarded, declined, and/or neglected to advocate for their rights,” read the statement in part.
According to Fazul, each of the workers’ pay is deducted a fee ranging from sh 150 to sh 620 depending on their salary range.
The regulatory authority has also stated that they have launched investigations into the collection and use of all the finances that have been deducted before.
Francis Atwoli who heads COTU in the country is accused by a section of workers of going into bed with the State and forgetting to execute his official mandate of protecting and fighting for the rights of all workers.
