Tuesday, June 20, 2023 –Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has been trending on Twitter after a ‘scammy’ WhatsApp conversation leaked online.

In the controversial conversation, Cherargei can be seen asking for a whopping sh 3 million bribe to influence a decision in Parliament.

“Three Million I take care of the Chair and members; anything after Tuesday I will not accept,” he responds to the other person in the alleged conversation.

He even goes ahead to claim that he has been instrumental in protecting someone called Ms Judy from the chairman.

Social media led by Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi, on Tuesday June 20, shared screenshots of the alleged conversation between the vocal United Democratic Alliance UDA Party senator and another person.

“Hi Cherargei, I am being told this is you begging for a bribe,” Nyakundi captioned the screenshot which he shared on his socials.

Shortly, the senator responded saying this was pure propaganda photoshoped to malign his good name as a leader in the ruling party.

“Some hoodlums photoshopped my number. these are desperate individuals who are used to propaganda, blackmail and intimidation.
“To the victims of allegedly being conned by First Choice Recruitment agency plus their families justice shall be served in fullness of time. ” The arc of moral universe is long but it bends towards justice!” he fired back.

Kenyans then quickly took to the comments section with varied observations; some pointing out how the Senator had been caught with his hands in the cookie jar.

“You have been caught with your hand in the cookie jar. Blaming this on Photoshop is hilarious. Hehe chief how do you solicit cash via text? Digital foot prints never go away, these texts can be verified by Safcom if they are compelled by a court of law,” James Mwadeghu commented.

Nixon Sang stated that “Mr. Chairman we understand you bright master from the soil, we can’t fight you as you Hustle but remember corruption in your county is at another level”.

Cherargei is now serving his second tern as Nandi County Senator. He is also a close friend to President William Ruto.
