Sunday, January 9, 2022 –Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has today morning been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI.
The police attached to the the National Cohesion and Integration Commission NCIC pounced on the lawmaker over his remarks during their UDA Party rally held in Eldoret town on Saturday January 8.
Sources reported that the outspoken senator was on Sunday January 9 nabbed at Rupa Hotel located within Eldoret Town.
This was happening shortly after the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji on Saturday evening directed that police led by IG Hillary Mutyambai should commence investigations into the conduct of the UDA politician.
“Pursuant of Article 157 (4) of the Constitution, I hereby direct that you immediately institute comprehensive investigations into the said allegations…,” Haji said.
Haji added that anyone found propagating hate speech this campaign period will not be spared to save the country from another war.
During the Eldoret rally where Ruto was the chief guest, Mr. Linturi castigated Rift Valley residents for allowing people from other parties to seek votes in the area. He argued that it was not going be allowed for anyone to go against wishes of UDA Party .
“The people of Uasin Gishu, you should top playing games. We cannot be supporting Ruto in Mount Kenya and Meru and you are here entertaining people who are not supporting him,” Linturi told the rally.
The vocal MP called for a six-piece voting pattern in favour of the United Democratic Alliance UDA and its presidential candidate William Ruto.
