Saturday, September 7, 2024 –The ongoing debate on selling of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport JKIA has continued to take a toll on government.
Latest to be questioned on this project is Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua whom Kisii County Senator Richard Onyonka directly confronted with the matter seeking clarification on why the State is selling out the facility.
Onyonka detailed that the sell deal struck with Indian conglomerate Adani to take over the running of the JKIA remains shrouded in mystery and it should be addressed before it is late.
“Your Excellency, how can we sell our airports? How can we take 14 airstrips and give them to an Indian company, nobody knows about the agreement and what has been signed,” the senator claimed without substantiating his airstrips remark.
Senator Onyonka, an ODM Party member and who was the first to blow this whistle in the country, took this matter to a funeral event in Trans Nzoia where he had met with several leaders among them Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
He asked Gachagua to confront his boss William Ruto with the same questions from members of the public as to why JKIA is on sale.
The vocal ODM senator, therefore, warned that proceeding with the exercise before consultations are exhausted will lead to a rejection of Kenyans.
Photos of Adani staff have emerged on social media this week showing the foreigners inspect and asses the viability of the facility which they want to take over.
It is also rumoured that the group has targeted so many luxurious hotels around the country following their agreement with President William Ruto’s administration.
