Friday, October 6, 2023 –A police officer in Kayole Nairobi died after shooting himself in the chin shortly after threatening to commit the crime.
In the altercation, he also shot a neighbour, Philip Muhavi Ayieka, who was attempting to stop him from killing himself.
Police report indicated that the late Ouma had called a senior colleague and told him he was ending his life.
When the commander reacted with speed, sadly, he found the man had been rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition where he finally succumbed.
Though, by the time of going to the press, it had not been established clearly why he chose to commit the suicide, sources close to him pointed at life challenges coupled with economy.
His body is currently lying at the Kenyatta University morgue for post-mortem medical exercise as police confirmed recovering the fatal pistol with 12 rounds of ammunition together with a cartridge.
Of late, police officers have been taking own lives some due to domestic pressure, economy and rising cost of living.
These three causes, according to experts, have led to depressed officers who easily take their own or family lives using the weapons they handle every day at their work places.
Most police officers in Kenya work under tough conditions add to squeezed pay slips that are filled with loans, what turns them dangerous and suicidal.
