Sunday, October 16, 2022 –Kenyans whose SIM Cards were suspended today were given a second chance to update their details and get back their lines.
In a message which was sent to the victims today Sunday, they were given an option of visiting any mobile shop to have their lines reactivated after fulfilling the required procedure.
They were also required to update their Identification ID cards before their lines could be back on air.
“Dear customer, your line has been suspended pending a registration update. Visit the nearest mobile operator’s shop to update your ID,” one of the user shared this message.
Top lawyers and politicians were not spared in the registration wave. For instance, Nairobi lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi was among the first ones to report that his line had been blocked.
“After 2 and half decades of being a loyal customer of @Safaricom_Care they unceremoniously switched off my line this sunday…tomorrow I will move to one of the competitors and will NEVER use their service again. I knew that short man will burn to ashes the House built by Michael!” he tweeted.
The same issue also affected newly-elected Makueni Governor, Lawyer Mutula Kilonzo Junior, who reported that he had also been affected in the process.
“I suffered the same fate. It took a while to figure out that my line had been barred,” the Governor regretted.
Though several of them threatened to go to court to file class action law suit for what they termed as a breach of contract, the Communication Authority of Kenya CAK had urged all citizens to make sure their lines are updated before Saturday October 15.
