Monday, April 25, 2022 –Singer Bahati born Kevin Kioko had to shed tears on Monday following reports that he had been pressured to step down from Mathare Constituency race.
In his emotional Monday April 25 briefing held in Nairobi, the ‘crying’ singer-cum-politician appeared to blame both Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta to consider him for the position because he had already went through a successful nomination process.
In his 15-minute long speech, Bahati claimed that he was being sidelined and that everybody in Azimio was throwing their weight behind his competitor who is also the incumbent, Tom Oluoch.
“I respect you my president and I respect Raila Amollo Odinga but please, give the youth of this country a chance.
“I know there is zoning and Mathare has been zoned as an ODM area but for this one time, give the youth of this country a chance. Give the people of Mathare a chance to choose the leader they have always wanted,” singer Bahati said.
He further argued that it was time a young man is given an opportunity to take over Mathare area after many years of neglect.
He also added that he did not join politics to earn money because if it is about job he has enough on his plate.
“I did not join politics to get a job because if it is about earning I already have a good job,” he said as tears rolled down his cheek.
Mathare is largely an ODM stronghold.
