Monday, July 1, 2024 –Former Nairobi County boss Mike Mbuvi Sonko has exposed President William Ruto over their 2022 agreement.
In a media statement he delivered on Saturday June 30, Sonko revealed how Ruto summoned him in a meeting that was also attended by Prof Kithure Kindiki in which he was asked to join Kenya Kwanza camp with a promise to get a government slot once Ruto is sworn in.
In his remarks made for the first time in public, Mr Sonko claimed that he was promised to be a pricipal secretary in the Kenya Kwanza administration. He was also offered two more PSs slots for anyone of his choice. Further he detailed that, apart from that, Ruto assured him that eight ambassadorial positions would of people of his own choice as well as six parastatal heads.
“I sat down with Ruto, Kindiki and one Muhara and we had an agreement. They asked me to make with them this government after Kalonzo had lost deputy president’s position and I had similarly lost in Mombasa County race,” Sonko recounts.
In their meeting with Ruto towards elections, in the presence of the media, Ruto urged him(Sonko) to support Kenya Kwanza with a promise to reciprocate; but after he(Ruto) was sworn into office, he implemented none of the promises.
Sonko has, therefore said, the reason young men and women in the country are unhappy with their government is because of persistent lies.
“This matter of Gen Zs was a time bomb because of lies and conmanship,” said Sonko adding that, until, President William Ruto learns to peak the truth, the country will continue doubting him and giving him difficult time to manage them.
In a round table media interview held at the Statehouse Nairobi on Sunday night, Ruto was challenged to explain the ‘trust’ issue in his administration and, in his response, said he had promised and implemented the pledge to reduce the cost of living.
“I told the country that the cost of unga will come down. And today it is retailing at sh 100. Is that a lie to you?” he told Linus Kakai.
Dr. Ruto was hosting journalists from top media houses among them Citizen Tv’s Linus Kakai, Eric Latiff from Spice Radio and Joe Ageyo of Nation Media Group who put the head of State on hot seat with tough questions.
The journalist tasked Ruto with questions concerning his promises to the voters, abduction of protesters and misuse of Kenyan military.
Ruto was also asked about the many unconstitutional offices(Offices of spouses) in his government. He, however, promised to scrap immediately.
Asked about why he treated the issue of Finance Bill the way he did hence leading to protests, Ruto conceded defeat buy blaming his communication team.
