Tuesday, February 23, 2021 -Building Bridges Initiative BBI Bill has surpassed the 24 Counties mark setting stage for a Referendum. It has emerged.
On Tuesday, over 14 Counties were set to debate and approve or disapprove the 2020 Constitutional Amendment Bill which they however gave a node before noon.
Citizen Tv reported that the counties which debated on the Bill today all passed it leaving Baringo County in the cold which remains the only one that shot down the bill a few weeks ago.
The Bill was forwarded to the Assemblies after the electoral body IEBC had verified over 3.1 million signatures.

Uhuru and Raila lobbied all governors to urge their MCAs to support the Bill when it gets into their hands what seems to have been taken serious.
This was made even possible by the sh 2 million car grant offer to all Members of County Assemblies. For this reason alone, Counties remained steadfast that they will sail it through especially today which Mr. Odinga dubbed the ‘Super Tuesday’.
According to the Star, Mr. Odinga who has been on the forefront rallying support for the BBI agenda, asked Kenyans to prepare for a plebiscite in June.
Now with over 24 counties having passed the draft Bill, the speakers of the respective Assemblies will deliver a copy of the Bill jointly to the Speakers of two Houses of parliament – The Senate and National Parliament, with a certificate to prove that their County Assembly had participated in the approval exercise.

At Parliament level, it is expected that the implementation of the BBI Report takes shape through legislation.
It must be noted that while the Bill will still need to go through both the National Assembly and the Senate, the referendum is as good as confirmed since the decision of the bicameral Parliament—whether they endorse or reject the document—will still result in a referendum, anyway.
