Sunday, April 18, 2021 -Two top Orange Democratic Movement ODM officials are in a bitter clash over the fate of BBI at Parliament level.
Reports reaching Homenews.co.ke desk on Sunday April 18 indicated how top Raila Odinga’s allies among them his longtime lawyer Paul Mwangi are clashing on what should be done on the BBI document.
Sources revealed to this desk that Odinga’s lawyer is of the view that the document should not be changed anything; while Mr. Orengo wants it altered further.
Their contradicting stands have seen them separately meet the former Prime Minister Mr. Odinga in Karen each pushing for his legal understanding of what should be done.
Mr. Mwangi has reportedly termed any further changes in the document as ‘illegal’ and which may make the document challenged in a court of law. Orengo on his part believes changes are inevitably before the final Referendum is conducted.
Not once has the Siaya Senator been heard pushing for changes in the BBI. On several occasions, he has claimed that the Parliament cannot play a ceremonial role over an important matter like the BBI. He wants the House to scrutinize the whole document and make necessary changes before being send to the people for a final vote.
“We will not want vanity and child’s play to prevail in such an important process. We have had many changes to Constitution before and it has always come to parliament for changes, even the Constitutional changes of 2010, didn’t it come to parliament? And didn’t we make changes to it? So we have precedence,” Orengo said during a recent interview.
On his part, ODM Party leader Raila Odinga is yet to publicly confirm or deny this standoff.
