Monday, September 5, 2022 –President-elect William Ruto has finally been confirmed to be validly elected president of the Republic of Kenya.
Addressing at the Supreme Court today Monday September 5 during judgment on the petition filed by Raila Odinga and Martha Karua, Chief Justice Martha Koome struck out almost all the accusations leveled against Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC and William Ruto.
“We find that the declared president-elect attained 50 per cent plus one of the total votes cast in accordance with article 138 (4) of the Constitution,” Martha Koome.
Raila’s claims that the Kenya Integrated Electoral Management System KIEMS kit had been compromised, was also thrown out as well as claims that foreigners intruded the local elections system.
This observation by the Apex Court now means William Ruto is the winner of the August 9 presidential contest.
Ruto being the substantial outgoing deputy president of the Republic of Kenya, will now be sworn in on September 13 at a venue which the State’ transition committee will be deciding.
Raila, on the other hand, will have to contend with the outcome of the verdict; same to Martha Karua his ex-running mate. He will be continuing with his role as the opposition leader.
This is now a big blow to his political career now ending on an anti-climax.
Outgoing head of State Uhuru Kenyatta has no option remaining for him, and therefore has to prepare to hand over power to his deputy, Dr. William Ruto.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ruto have not been in very good terms now for close to five years; a crack started immediately Uhuru went into the historic Handshake with opposition leader Raila Odinga.
