Friday, June 24, 2022 –Jubilee Party Vice Chairman David Murathe has disclosed the reason Deputy President William Ruto is still in office despite falling out with his boss, Uhuru Kenyatta.
Addressing the matter on Spice FM in the morning of Friday June 24, the vocal Uhuru Kenyatta ally said the Constitution protected Ruto from sacking.
He reasoned that the ‘Deputy President’ Position is strongly anchored in the Constitution and it was not going to be easy for anybody including the president to sack at will the person holding the office.
“Remember in our current dispensation, it’s only the Deputy President who is anchored in the Constitution who can’t be fired. So you can make Kalonzo today the Chief Minister and fire him tomorrow. It’s only the Deputy President, otherwise the President would have fired Ruto long time ago,” Mr Murathe revealed.
Murathe charged that it is because of the security of tenure that Ruto remained safe all along despite having committed so many mistakes in Jubilee administration.
And asked why the president was selected as the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition when Raila Odinga was available, Murathe noted that it is because of trust issues within local political formations.
“It is the distrust and mistrust in the political class and he comes in as a guarantor,” he clarified though insisting once the coalition is stabilized, he(Uhuru) will not be there always.
Murathe was among the first persons to propose Raila Odinga as the best suitable successor of the outgoing president.
He would argue that Raila comes in as an old man who will play the role of smooth transition through what he described as the ‘Mandela Moment’.
