Wednesday, February 15, 2023 –Lawyer Danstan Omari has accused police of raiding Dr. Fred Matiangi’s home and attempting to destroy CCTV footage that captured Wednesday ugly night raid.
Matiang’i’s lawyer, Omari, while reacting to the news, stated that the police were going against court orders which barred them from arresting his client Dr. Matiang’i.
He confirmed that the raiders also arrested a security guard at the gate who had raised an alarm when he spotted them break into the home.
“They arrested the watchman when he tried to raise alarm over the raid on former CS Matiangi’s home,” Dunstan Omari claimed.
He made confirmation that the former Minister was not around when they broke into his compound and, in the process, forced there way into all rooms in the home.
“I know more than twenty police officers who raided Matiangi’s home by name, and given a chance I would identify them one by one,” Omari claimed.
DCI boss Amin Mohamed told media stations that they had been allowed, through courts orders, to access the home.
“Upon completing our investigation, we will take action if any officers from any security agency were involved in any unauthorized activities, or if any false information was knowingly disseminated by anyone to the public,” DCI noted in a statement.
Opposition Chief Raila Odinga who arrived at the scene immediately after the incident asked Matiang’i and the family to remain strong saying these are some of the things he had seen before.
He described the actions by the government as dark days that this country had tried to do away with, long ago.
“We are going back to a police state as a country. I do not think that Matiang’i should be treated as a criminal. Police too have not acquired any court orders to harrass him,” Raila added.
He seized the opportunity to warn police officers against ignoring official court orders through what he termed as impunity of the highest order.
