Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs, Wycliffe Oparanya, joined William Ruto’s cabinet with too much zeal and his first resolve was to chase after Hustler Fund defaulters.
Immediately he was sworn in, the first statement he made to appease his bosses was to follow after all defaulters of hustlers Fund. He promised to find them upto their doorsteps.
But he(Oparanya) made the statement in complete ignorance. He thought he was handling his age group that does not understand matters digital and how to retrieve any evidence from online archives.
Next day in the morning, his months old video clip inciting young Kenyans never to repay the loans emerged number one both on X and Facebook. In the clip, the former Kakamega County governor was heard telling those who had borrowed money from the Hustler’s kitty to continue taking the money and never to repay it.
Oparanya didn’t see this coming. After the clip went viral for one week nonstop, he quietly vanished into the thin air never to make such a reckless statement again. Todate, the CS for Cooperatives must have respected social media handlers in Kenya.
