This was Chebukati for You

Chris Akali

Wafula Chebukati has left us after he battled a health complication unknown to the public.

Rubble-rousing blogger Aoko Otieno shared that the former IEBC chairman actually had an abrupt eye complication arising from his political interactions; but we do not know if this is true or not. We can’t truly tell.

Said as it is, Chebukati needs to be send off and be forgotten permanently. He might have helped one or two people get what they wanted in this country, but, the fact remains he was a widely unwanted man home and away.

At home, Hon. Eugene Wamalwa who, recently, tried to mention him before his own people was met with a huge shocker. Locals in Bungoma told Eugene to let Chebukati die – they do not care.

Yes, we can try as much to sugar coat things but the ex- IEBC chairman made leadership blunders that can’t easily be forgotten by anyone.

Well, he gave us the ‘winners’ but not as transparent as we would have expected. Switching off the live streaming of presidential results and going ahead to read the outcome in the absence of a majority of commissioners was out of order and unconstitutional. But he went ahead and announced the results, setting stage for another legal battle at the Supreme Court. His team warm anyway!

But, who is God? Mr. Chebukati has never enjoyed the presidency he gave us. For two years this Government has been in power, the man has been on bed throughout. Yes on hospital bed.

He is not alone, his sister-in-crime, Chief Justice Martha Koome, has also been at constant loggerhead with this Government which she happily handed Supreme victory. Nice things can happen here on earth! Don’t forget the impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who has been pushed out into the trenches. The victim list is long.

Interestingly, the person they denied victory, fairly or unfairly, is, today, enjoying the trappings of power with the current president. They like each other and are full time buddies. Both in government now. Again, Karma is something else.
