Thursday, May 30, 2024 –Lawyer Donald Kipkorir has weighed in on the raging debate following President William Ruto’s utterances that he was offered a private flight to the United States of America.
In a statement shared on his X, today Thursday May 30, the flamboyant lawyer wondered why the head of State would accept a discounted flight offer of a whopping 190 million.
Law says, from the law, Government officials should not receive any form of gifts especially from a foreign nation.
Kipkorir has, therefore, faulted those in the senior position of advising the president for misleading him on this.
“Just wondering, was the President advised by State House legal team that it may not be proper, legal, constitutional or statutory for a President to receive a gift, in cash or kind from a foreign entity?” he wrote.
Lawyer Kipkorir Give best Option
The lawyer, while giving an option, said Ruto ought to make sure the sh 190M discount offer is paid to the flight company in full.
“The best thing for our President to do to resolve the issue is ask for actual invoice from the private jet operator & pay the amount in full. A Discount is tantamount to a gift or bribe,” Lawyer Kipkorir advised.
Not paying the United Arab Emirates UAE company the sh 190M means the head of State has openly admitted receiving the bribe.
“In saying he paid Kshs. 10 million only instead of Kshs. 200 million for the private jet to US, President William Ruto acknowledge he received a bribe of Kshs. 190 million,” Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi commented on the issue.
What Ruto said on Private jet
The two were responding to claims by Ruto, today, that he was given the private jet by foreign friends who were concerned with how he would travel to the United States.
“They asked me about my trip and when they heard that I was opting for the Kenya Airways, they asked me how much I have and told them I have sh 10M. That is the point they asked me to part with the amount so that they could process my flight,” Ruto told the public at the National Breakfast Prayer even held at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi today Thursday May 30.
On his part, Lawyer Miguna Miguna has called out the Statehouse team for the same, saying the information from the House on the Hill is incoherent and unreliable.
Israel Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was convicted and jailed for corruption after being bought a house on discounted price.
Israel Supreme Court held that, the discount was tantamount to a bribe. Under Public Officer Ethics Act, all non-monetary gifts more than sh. 20,000 must be disclosed to the integrity agency.
