Traffic Cop Forfeits sh 26M he had Been Bribed on Kenyan Roads

Wednesday, November 3, 2021 –A corrupt traffic cop has accepted to surrender all the wealth he acquired from road users in bribes.

The officer who operates along the Garissa-Thika Highway has, according to media, agreed to part with a whopping sh 26 million he feels he acquired as bribes from innocent road users.

This was triggered by the many reports filed by members of the public who reported that the traffic cop was a notorious bribe taker on the highway what forced the anti-graft agency to commence immediate investigations.

“During the six years, we established that he had cumulative assets, cash, and land valued at Ksh47 million. He had banked Ksh26 million, which has been frozen through a court order,” EACC’s Philip Kagucia was quoted.

In that regard, a  sum of sh 26,193,071 which is held in a bank account whose number was withheld for obvious reasons was now forfeited to the State.

“The sum of Ksh26,193,071 held in bank account number (withheld) in the name of the officer (name withheld) be and is hereby forfeited to the government,” the agreement adopted by Justice James Wakiaga stated in part.

Homenews.co,ke learnt that the suspect held a month-long negotiations with the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission EACC which allowed him to sign off the accounts to the government. This was despite the fact that he had argued that some of the said wealth had been sourced from his livestock business as well as family inheritance.

The anti-graft agency discovered from its investigations that in a week, the officer would pocket upto sh 500,000 from motorists on the highway.
